KABALE UNIVERSITY HEALTH CLINIC
Kabale University Clinic offers twenty-four-hour medical services to students. Currently, the university has a medical clinical officer and a registered nurse who run the clinic on a full-time basis. In addition, the university entered into agreement with a private clinic (KIGONZI CLINIC) where referral cases are handled. The proprietor of Kigonzi Clinic is a qualified medical doctor who also serves the university as the university doctor. The medical services offered range from preventive to curative.
The university clinic offers curative treatment for simple conditions that can be managed on outpatient basis. Complicated cases which require admission and intricate investigations are currently referred to Kigonzi Clinic, a modern health facility with adequate medical facilities and service providers.
Preventive services are provided through health talks and counselling services which equip students with knowledge about how to avoid risky behaviour that may expose them to infections, especially STD's\STI's, and conception of unwanted/unplanned pregnancies. The university clinic personnel, in conjunction with Kigonzi Clinic health providers, the university administration and guild leadership, organises health education talks regarding behavioural change so as to enhance healthy behaviours. The clinic has created health clubs which bring students together to share views and interact freely with their medical service providers who inform, counsel and answer questions that arise from them (students).
The university shall continue to upgrade the clinic and increase the scope of healthcare services with the growing student enrolment.
